About the data
Monthly net generation, battery charging and discharge, and fuel heat input from EIA-923. Years before 2008 use its predecessor forms EIA-906/920 and EIA-759. 2026 is provisional year to date.
Plant net generation sums the plant-level generation and fuel records by exact plant ID. Capacity factors divide it by the nameplate in service at the time, not today’s, so they start in 2010.
Source-level EIA-923 and EIA-860 detail tables, processed by PUDL, add boiler fuel, generator generation, and fuel receipts and cost for heat rate, fuel and cost questions.

Known gaps
- Annual final files can contain EIA allocations of annual totals rather than monthly readings.
- A missing month is not zero, and partial years are not annualized.
- If any component of a plant is unreported in a month, the plant total for that month is null.
- Net generation is a plant-level survey value. It does not identify the export meter or curtailment.
Missing values stay missing: a null means the source has no usable record, never zero. Zero and negative values are shown as reported.
